Transformative Discipleship: An ICT Graduate's Experience

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him…?
— Psalm 8:3-4a

It is humbling to trace God’s handiwork in our learner’s lives over the three or so years that they study with us in ICT. In his recent graduation speech, Nigerian graduate V. spoke of the transformation he himself experienced, and his hope for all God will do through him – and others – for generations to come.

“I stand before you today, humbled and grateful to have completed this transformative journey…” As V. thanked God for guiding and empowering him, he celebrated “the growth, connections, and callings that have shaped us…”

V. continued: “Over the past three years, I've seen God deliver and set me free from ungodly beliefs that had hitherto hindered my spiritual formation and impact on others. I have experienced how abiding in Christ (John 15) breaks relational barriers and empowers us for fruitfulness in life and ministry. I've gained valuable insights into holistic community development, spiritual growth, Christ-like leadership, and deep discipleship. I've come to understand that community transformation is premised upon individual spiritual formation and the meekness of heart to walk and work in the power of God's word and spirit. A significant lesson in ICT [is] that everything happens in answer to prayer, hence the need to depend on the Lord in all situations… This journey has been life-changing.”

V. closed with this blessing: “May our lives reflect the transformative power of God. May our communities flourish under our stewardship. And may our work glorify God, who has called and equipped us for this noble task of making disciples of all nations. ”

Please pray!

  • Pray for V. as he steps into God’s calling in a life of transformational discipleship, leveraging the power of the media, especially social media, for global engagement. May we all “partner with God to bring transformation to every corner of the globe.”

  • Pray for a blessed start for the second term of our academic year! Pray for effectiveness for those studying and practicing their learning and wisdom and grace for staff and faculty.

  • Pray for our global team members as they take increasing responsibility to lead ICT. May God’s power and glory be over us all as He leads us in the way forward.

  • For God’s presence, peace, provision, protection, wisdom, health, strength, joy, and blessing for all in ICT.

Thank you for joining us as God builds the Institute for Community Transformation and through us furthers flourishing communities, marked by His shalom, among all peoples!
